Surveys indicate that at least half of 18-year-olds do not have the minimum level of financial literacy needed to understand and protect their own interests. Even fewer understand what they need to know about credit.

Today, young people are offered credit cards very early, often becoming indebted even before they leave high school. Many accumulate substantial debt by the time they are twenty and are on their way to creating lasting damage to their credit and, indeed, their lives.

We hope the website will spark students’ interest in building their credit early so that they can become homeowners. Texas Mortgage Bankers Association offers many resources at www.texasmba.org  that you and your students can use to expand your understanding of credit, the value of good credit, and how to build and maintain it.
